The Royal Wedding 2010
Erika Lagerbielke created the gift from the Swedish people
On Sunday May 30th Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, the Riksdag, Per
Westerberg and Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt presented H.R.H. Crown Princess
Victoria and Mr. Daniel Westling with the Swedish Riksdag's and Government's
common gift at Stockholm Palace.
The gift is a glass set designed by professor Erika Lagerbielke and handmade by
Orrefors in Småland's Kingdom of Crystal. The gift was a surprise to the Crown
Prince Couple at the banns of marriage. Designing and making the set has been an
intense and very secret ongoing process since the couple's engagement in February
2009.
The set is classic with a modern touch. The glasses are decorated with a coat of
crystal ice and the Crown Princess Couple's monogram surrounded by an elegant
hand cut pattern. The set consists of a total of 200 sets of five different glasses
tailored to the needs of a representative dinner. The idea is that the glass set will be
used at the Crown Princess Couple's official representations.
At the presentation the gift was placed in a casket made at the Riksdag's carpentry.
The casket is also designed by Erika Lagerbielke.
